Human beings can experience almost 100 emotions a day, and most of those emotions are caused by outside factors. Studies have shown that the build up of stressful factors make us more susceptible to emotionally charged reactivity. I have observed that this type of reactivity appears opposite to how it feels, as when experiencing this I have felt valid in my own reactive behavior, though when seeing others in a similar position, judgement is raised.
I am representing these common behaviors through ink and charcoal drawings to remind viewers that reactive emotions are natural, though they can also be slightly horrifying to witnesses. These depictions utilize high contrast, gestural marks, stippling, and humanoid vessels that wear the emotional reactions. There is also fabric and sewn details added to further push space, depth, and narrative.
